Our purpose is to share the stories behind each cup of specialty coffee and present these unique journeys that are based on excellence in coffee farming and built by those who believed in the potential of our Brazilian land.
We are SMC, specialty coffee division of Cooxupé – a cooperative with over ninety years of tradition composed of more than 18 thousand families. We are a collective that believes in specialty coffee as being an agent for changes.

Our history began in 2009, combining tradition with innovation. Through our projects, we enable the sharing of knowledge and the expansion of possibilities within the specialty coffee market, respecting all stages of the coffee production and all the historical and emotional importance it carries along.

Combining expertise with the care and love we have for coffee, we deliver to the world the best that our plantations produce, always guided by the three pillars of sustainability. We continue with our mission to share the exquisite flavors of specialty coffees from the noblest origins in Brazil, honoring our commitment to a better, more united community.

COOXUPÉ’S FAMILY

The purpose of cooperativism is in our foundation. We hold a philosophical structure that is based on collective actions that are transformed into work improvement and positive returns. Cooxupé’s operations cover 300 municipalities and include more than 18,000 producers. About 97% of its members live from family agriculture. It is through the cooperative that we identify and receive our specialty coffees.

Our purpose is to keep our cycle of social, economic and environmental pillars, ensuring its movement through a sustainable coffee farming, developed with care, professionalism and innovation, building solid and transparent partnerships in favor of the most extraordinary Brazilian specialty coffees.

Our pillars support the commitment we assert within the coffee chain, in order to be the largest specialty coffee company in Brazil, with worldwide recognition.

Cooxupé opens SMC in Poços de Caldas.

2018

SMC and Cooxupé host the Cup of Excellence edition

2014

SMC moves from Poços de Caldas to Guaxupé, city where Cooxupé’s head office is located.

2019

The first Especialíssimo award ceremony takes place

2016

Especialíssimo, our specialty coffee program, is created.

2020

Donas do Café is created and developed.

2017

SMC’s own warehouse opening.

2022

SMC’s new head office is inaugurated.

FROM HAND TO HAND, MINDING EVERY COFFEE BEAN

In order to deliver our selected beans to importers, roasters, and specialized coffee shops around the globe, we must handle everything with carefulness and with a closer look to the details. Each process matters and all the people involved are fundamental.

NOURISHING THE SOIL, EXPECTING TO FLOWER AND BEAR FRUIT

Crop management is of utmost importance for crop health and yield quality.

HARVESTING, SEPARATING, DRYING AND PROTECTING

Post-harvest requires attention and dedication. Each drying process will result in unique specialty coffees.

ANALYZE, TASTE AND RECOMMEND

Sensory evaluation must be thorough in order to identify all the attributes that the coffee offers in the cup.

FINDING A NEW HOME

With great care, we prepare samples for each client, according to the sensory profiles they seek, and take care of all the shipment logistics.
